COUNTDOWN

How to Play Countdown

Welcome to Countdown - a mind-bending puzzle game where every click counts! Your goal is simple: turn all tiles to zero. But the path to get there requires strategy and careful planning.

🎯 The Goal

Clear the board by getting all 9 tiles to show 0. When you achieve this, you’ll see the satisfying “ALL CLEARED!” message and earn points based on your efficiency.

🎮 Game Mechanics

Basic Rules

  1. Click any tile to activate it
  2. When you click a tile:
  • That tile’s value decreases by 1
  • All tiles in the same row decrease by 1
  • All tiles in the same column decrease by 1
  1. Values wrap around: 0 → 5 → 4 → 3 → 2 → 1 → 0

🏆 Difficulty Levels

Choose your challenge level:

  • 🌟 LIGHT (1-2 moves): Perfect for learning the mechanics
  • ⭐ EASY (3-5 moves): A gentle warm-up
  • 💫 MEDIUM (6-10 moves): The sweet spot of challenge
  • 🔥 HARD (11-20 moves): For puzzle veterans
  • 💀 HEAVY (21-35 moves): The ultimate brain-melter

📊 Scoring System

Base Points for Completion

When you get all tiles to zero, you earn base points according to your difficulty:

  • Light: 100 points (100 × 1)
  • Easy: 200 points (100 × 2)
  • Medium: 300 points (100 × 3)
  • Hard: 400 points (100 × 4)
  • Heavy: 500 points (100 × 5)

Move-Based Bonuses and Penalties

Each difficulty shows a move range (e.g., “3-5 moves”). Every puzzle can be solved within this range.

Your score is calculated based on the maximum of the range:

  • Minimum moves (e.g., 3): Base points + maximum bonus
  • Within range (e.g., 4): Base points + smaller bonus
  • At maximum (e.g., 5): Base points only (no bonus)
  • Beyond range (e.g., 6+): Base points minus penalties

Example for Easy (3-5 moves, 200 base points):

  • Solve in 3 moves: 200 + bonus points
  • Solve in 4 moves: 200 + half the bonus
  • Solve in 5 moves: 200 points exactly
  • Solve in 6+ moves: Less than 200 points

Intermediate Scoring

You can also earn points before completing the puzzle:

  • All Same (non-zero): 50 points flat
  • Three in a Row: 10 points per line

Perfect Games

A “Perfect Game” is achieved when you complete the puzzle within the difficulty’s move range. For example, solving an Easy puzzle (3-5 moves) in 5 moves or less counts as perfect. Your perfect game count is tracked in your local statistics.

🎯 Strategy Tips

  1. Plan Ahead: Look for patterns before clicking
  2. Every Click Counts: Each tile affects exactly 6 tiles (its entire row and column)
  3. Look for Patterns: Tiles with the same value often indicate a strategic move
  4. Undo Wisely: You can undo moves, but each undo counts as an extra move
  5. Practice Light Mode: Master the basics before tackling harder difficulties
